First off I would like to say that my whole stupid ass body hurts after Monday. Which leads me to believe that 8, while is is not 10, is still far too many fucking sets of 5, and I can tell that things are starting to take a toll, and that I haven’t been keeping up with the shit that I am supposed to be doing everyday, but I will get to my descrepencies in a moment. Right now I am going to talk about awesome shit that other people are doing.
Here is Nathan with a #245 hang clean & jerk. I believe that he hit a #265 clean the other day as a PR, I think that this may be a jerk PR, but I am not sure honestly (bad coaching #1). After this he hit a #265 clean, but straightened his leg out on the jerk and dumped it forward. He went for it again, probably should have just called it a day (bad coaching #2) and didn’t have it out of the bottom of the clean. Regardless, he has been progressing pretty steadily with his olympic lifts.
He is my best friend Shark, who’s shoulder press prowess is well known in the DarkSide, pressing his plus set of the 8×5+ and hitting 10 reps with #195. Which I thought was pretty solid. I didn’t see his jerks (bad coaching #3) but he said that he just didn’t have them, so I think that we are going to have shark actually start doing some of the jerk drills….. but that could still be a tough sell.
Ok, on to my own shit.
First off I would like to offer a disclaimer. I have just been really stressed out about Waylon’s wedding. It is basically only a week and a half away. Waylon hasn’t been to the gym all week, and I am really stressed. If anybody knows of any good ass ways to stop a wedding, I am all fucking ears…. and no, hookers won’t work. Already tried it, Ashley is very forgiving.
Basically though, I just haven’t been doing the shit that I am supposed to be doing. I have been going hard and lifting weights and what not. I actually at least started warming up before I lifted, but there are several things that I know that I should be doing to prevent my previous injuries and what not from returning, stuff that Bill Hartman and Mike Robertson taught me how to do, that is quick and easy. I have just been too damn lazy to actually do any of it. I walk around the gym telling people to do all kinds of stuff all day, and then just get busy and leave alot of the simple shit that I should be doing out, dimissing it for the things that I consider “more important”…………. I also haven’t done any conditioning work for about 3 or 4 months. I might do a prowler sprint today though
Here is what has happened. I started this training cycle coming off of doing a program written for me by Mike Robertson, not doing any overhead work, due to my shoulder really being jacked up before the USAW meet in Georgia. Lots of light corrective stuff and mobility work had me come into the training cycle feeling great. Now we stepped into this shit and it is more volume than I have ever done, and it is basically sucking the fucking life right out of my soul. and beyond that, I noticed that the same problems that I had before and starting to manifest themselves again, because I am not keeping up with the shit that I know that I need to be doing. And I am going to show you what I mean.
The first video is my 5th clean and jerk at #265. I was able to go 5/5 with no misses. Which is good for me, my jerks are pathetic, so I am going to just start here and force myself to hit multiple reps with no misses. It makes me angry as fuck, cause there is no reason for a guy who can press #220 to jerk so shittilly….. but that is not what we are looking at regardless. It is hard to see from this video, but my right foot flies out to the right and I almost fell over, the weight was light enough that I could recover and stand it up, and if this was an isolated incident then it would be no big deal… but here is the next video…..
This is my 8th set of 5 press @145. I hit 11 reps, but what I am looking at on this video is the position of my right foot, if you notice how much more it is turned out that the left foot. This matters to me because I was trying to have my toes pretty straight, as I usually do, and this felt natural and right
What does it mean? Well, my external rotators in my right hip and been notoriously tight, leading to strains of my left groin, the other thing that it does is cause my hips to tilt to the right, and allows my right shoulder to depress anteriorly, then it hurts like shit when I snatch or jerk.
The bottom line of the story is that you have to keep yourself in check. If my ass walks up to you in the gym and tells you things that you need to be doing, then you need to be doing them. Catch the injuries and what not before they happen. Function dictates form, since my right hip is super fucking tight in external rotation, my internal rotation of my left hip is shitty, this prevents me from keeping my heel out and my knee down in the damn jerk, which sucks.
Basically, I made an appointment for tomorrow morning with the voodoo magician Dr. Kyle Bowling for tomorrow morning. We will do some ART stuff and scrape my hip with the graston thing. Then we will see how training goes on Saturday morning.
